Monday Motivation!

Good morning, readers! Despite the next three days of impending storms, it’s promising to be a busy and beautiful week. Here’s some of Marianne’s Monday Motivation to get you started on the right foot:

“The good have a passion for what they do. The great have a passion for life in general. I want great, and my goal is to take as many people as I can with me on that journey. With that, let’s have a great week my people!”

Seriously, this woman has one of the best outlooks on life. She competes in triathlons, was (and still is!) a legendary star of the University of Miami women’s basketball team, never loses determination in her law school studies, and is one of my best role models. If you ever need a pep talk, or a heavy dose of inspiration – you need to make a date with Marianne. Be focused, be positive, and make moves! Happy Monday, everyone.

VIDEO: Dark Side of the Lens

Today’s video is a stunning showcase of what is it to be driven by an insatiable passion. For this man, inspiration comes from photographing waves and surfing. The video gives an excellent perspective into what it’s like to be wholly dedicated to capturing the almighty power of the earth. Although the narrator’s heart beats for the ocean, I found that for me, the video spoke to my untapped yearning to document the art and lifestyle that accompanies climbing. Whether you’re an artist, filmmaker, photographer, outdoor lover or any style of creative mind – check out this video.

“There’s no sugary cliche, most folk don’t even know who we are, what we do, or how we do it – let alone want to pay us for it. I never want to take this for granted, so I try to keep motivation simple, real, positive. If I only scrape a living, at least it’s a living worth scraping. If there’s no future in it, at least there’s a present worth remembering. The fires of happiness, the waves of gratitude. For everything that brought us to that point in life, at that moment in time. To do something worth remembering, or a photograph, or a scar. I feel genuinely lucky to say hand on heart that I love doing what I do and I may never be a rich man. If I live long enough, I’ll certainly have a tale or two.”

This felt like one of those ‘if you’re looking for a sign, this is it‘ moments. Over the past few years, I’ve begun to grow comfortable with the prospect that not everyone ends up swimming in endless pools of money, and furthermore, that money doesn’t amount to happiness or measure success. It’s about experiences, perspectives, accomplishments and being content. – And although I think there’s a lot more success to be had in my future, I’m pretty damn content with the present. Time to invest in that Canon Rebel T2i.

Monday Motivation

Readers, we’re starting something new! A dear friend of mine, Marianne Curtis, always begins her Mondays with a motivational quote or statement that has always given me a little extra oomph in my weekly determination. With her permission, The Morning Fresh is going to begin featuring her Monday Motivations every week, to help everyone start their week on a positive track. Without further adieu, here’s your first Monday Motivation:

“There are no timeouts, there are no dress rehearsals, there is no pause button. The beauty is in the execution of our plans and goals. That comes from the realization that we have worked too hard to come up short of our potential. Happy Monday people!”

– Marianne Curtis

I shall be delighting you with pictures, and regaling you with tales of my mountain adventures in the upcoming posts, so check back throughout the day/week!

Daily Climbing Inspiration

After being inspired by sites like Pimpin’ & Crimpin’ – back in its glory days – I have decided to start incorporating a lot more about rock climbing and traveling into my posts on The Morning Fresh. To start our Wednesday morning, I’ve included one of my absolute favorite YouTube videos of my climbing idol, Alex Puccio. This girl is seriously badass, and watching her videos gets me stoked to become a better climber. Check out Puccio’s ripped shoulders and arms, it’s ridiculous.

If that doesn’t make you want to slide on your climbing shoes, chalk up your fingers and CLIMB – then I don’t know what will. Watching videos of Alex Puccio makes my hands sweat. I was planning on having a rest day today, but let’s face it – I am definitely hitting up Tally Rock Gym tonight for a few hours. Climb on, readers!

Why you should take part in ‘Operation Beautiful’

Loyal readers, by now you know that one of my focuses for The Morning Fresh is promoting positive vibes and healthy, happy attitudes. This morning, I came across an invitation to partake in Florida State University’s ‘Operation Beautiful’. This community project aims to promote everything that I stand for – raising self-love, and squashing negative thinking.

On October 6th, post-it notes will be spread throughout campus bathrooms, car windshields, building stairwells and everywhere in between. The event invites women to create their own post-it message and leave it somewhere that other people will be able to absorb the uplifting spirit sent through each little note.

I think that this is truly an amazing way that we can all participate in spreading good vibes throughout not only campus, but the entire town. I plan on incorporating Operation Beautiful into my daily life, and am going to start carrying around a pad of post-its so I can leave a quick ‘You are beautiful!‘ whenever the mood strikes. No matter where you’re from, you should join the masses of women who are striving to erase negative body images and foster healthy relationships with our bodies and minds.

It would be great to see this concept blossom into an entire series of uplifting post-its. Why limit the message to just ‘You are Beautiful‘? I want to leave little bits of inspiration that could change a stranger’s day, or even life. Something like ‘Forget everything else, take that trip you’ve been dreaming of.‘ or ‘Today is THE day.‘ One of my favorite inspiring images that I have come across reads “If you’re waiting for a sign, this is it.” Whatever version of this idea applies best to your lifestyle, take it and run with it!

Thought of the Day

Do not regret growing older. It is a privilege denied to many.”

Good Morning, Tallahassee!

If you’ve been outside at all today, you’ve noticed the beautiful weather our humble city has bestowed upon us. The sun is bright, the breeze is strong – and I found a caterpillar on Niko’s basil plant this morning! I foresee a good day ahead. A bit of a mis-matched post, I wanted to share a few images to spread today’s good spirit, and a link from an ‘assignment’ for my Communications Geography class.

Today I’m leading a discussion about disembodiment in cyberspace, and its relation to Descartes’ ideas of the Cartesian self. (Alex Kaplan, you will enjoy this!) I had to read a ridiculous paper about it, and in response composed a critical review/reflection of the piece. You can check out my take on the relationship between our cyber identities and our ‘real’ bodies here. Basically, I find that while cyberspace allows our minds to experience new identities online, our ‘offline’ identities are inescapable; once you log off from your cyber fantasy, you’re right back in your body.

Now for the good stuff – a few images from one of my favorite websites, We Heart It.com. People from all over the world upload inspiring images and photos, which users are able to ‘heart’ by clicking little icons at the bottom of each image. Eventually you build up a collection of your favorite finds, which is a great way to start the morning. Here are a few of my favorites:

I think I’m going to start posting more of these on a weekly basis. If anyone else has a weheartit account, post a link and I’ll follow you! Feel free to post any other inspiring images as well. Happy Wednesday everyone! I’m off to lead a class discussion, then climbing at the Tallahassee Rock Gym, followed by a farewell dinner at Momo’s. Keep spreadin’ the good vibes.
